2023 Beekeeping Class Fees
(Beekeeping 101 OR 105 - see descriptions below, payment options are at the bottom)
This year we are offering both Beekeeping 101 with Dan Rau & Beekeeping 105 with KT Thompson. BK105 will be offered on zoom with an in-person day in the apiary, while BK101 will depend on the size and needs of the group. Please see the descriptions below and make sure you've registered online here! Registration is required in order to recieve Zoom meeting information.
Beekeeping 105
The Beekeeping 105 course is taught by KT Thompson on Zoom from 6:00pm-8:30pm on Monday Evenings March 27, April 3, & April 24 in 2023 (registrants will receive meeting link and details via e-mail after registration is complete & payment is received) & one Saturday in the Apiary pending weather, but tentatively scheduled for May 13 (possible alternate date: May 20) - we will solidify the day in the apiary as the date approaches.
KT Thompson is an ECB board member, worked as a high school science teacher before beginning as chemistry professor at NJC, is in the CSBA master beekeeping program, and has taught honey bee biology & beekeeping to adults and high school students both in person and online.
Beekeeping 105 overlaps somewhat with Beekeeping 101, but is meant to be its own class for beekeepers wanting to advance their understanding of their bees and the art of beekeeping. It is appropriate for folks who've had bees for a few years as well as NEW beekeepers who are interested. Topics will include: introduction to the honey bee, beekeeping equipment, beekeeping as an animal husbandry, working with bees, health concerns & basic management, seasonal colony changes & management, class member choice topic presentations, and hive inspections & monitoring/record keeping.
This class is meant for beginner/apprentice level beekeepers and is approved as beginning level education that will help you qualify for the master beekeeper program, if you'd like (http://coloradobeekeepers.org/education/general-information-and-applications/).

- BK105: $65 for current due-paying ECB members and $75 for non-members

Beekeeping 101
The Beekeeping 101 course is taught by Dan Rau on Zoom according to the April schedule options - there are choices participants can select in the registration form in 2023 (registrants will receive meeting links and details via e-mail after registration is complete & payment is received).
a) April 11 & 13, 6-9pm
b) April 15, 9am-4pm
OR
c) April 25 & 27, 6-9pm
Dan may offer a day in the apiary open to anyone who completes his class - the location and schedule for that day in the apiary is TBD.
Dan Rau is involved in the Brighton Bee Club, involved in the Colorado Master Beekeeping Program, an honorary Eastern Colorado Beekeepers member, in the CSBA master beekeeping program, and has taught beginner beekeeper courses and spoken on various beekeeping topics. Dan also owns The Beekeeper's Den, a beekeeping shop located in Brighton, Colorado.
Beekeeping 101 is a targeted class meant to help a beginning beekeeper get their bees successfully through the first season and into the first winter.
This class is meant for beginner/apprentice level beekeepers and is approved as beginning level education that will help you qualify for the master beekeeper program, if you'd like (http://coloradobeekeepers.org/education/general-information-and-applications/).
- Any specific scheduling options that do not have sufficient registerations will be cancelled. Minimum registration is 5 per scheduled option.
